The announcement from Google towards the end of 2025 stated that some AI features would come to YouTube for TV. This upcoming feature from YouTube is one of those, as it allows viewers to ask questions and follow up on videos. This implies that YouTube is bringing its Gemini-powered Ask feature to smart TVs as a limited experiment.
An update on the YouTube Help support page shared by the company explains that YouTube is gaining a conversational AI tool on TV. As the feature is coming as an experiment, it means it won’t be widely available. Google will test it with Premium Labs users before expanding availability.

The new feature isn’t restricted to smart TVs alone. It will also work on gaming consoles as well as streaming devices. It will function the same way as it does on the desktop and mobile. This implies that you’ll see a new Ask button that lets you submit prompts related to the content when you’re watching a video. That’s to say, you could ask what the video is about or request something more specific, such as listing Geekbench scores mentioned in a smartphone review.
Google further explains that you can press the microphone button on your TV remote to activate the conversational AI tool and ask questions directly (in addition to selecting the Ask icon).
The feature is limited to a small group of users for now, but the release is coming soon. It’s coming at the same time YouTube is also testing a feature that reduces notifications from channels you don’t regularly watch. The Gemini’s Ask feature on the YouTube app and desktop has been absent on the smart TV app. The good news is that things will change now.
